This Luttrell family favorite could have been the original smash burger!
Momma Suze's Square Burger
Why it's on our list
On Season 3, Episode 8, Leigh and Lindsay Luttrell describe their favorite week night meal from childhood that Momma Susan made, Square Hamburgers! One of the simplest recipes we've ever talked about on the show, calls for a sheet pan, ground beef, Worcestershire and butter! The key is to get the meat paper thin by using a fork or spoon to press it flat. The meat soaks up all the goodness from the Worcestershire and butter to create a flavor bomb burger. The sauce is similar to what you would find on a Big Mac making this burger a smash hit!
Ingredients
1 1/2 pound ground beef (go with the 80/20)
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
Half stick of butter (sliced into pats)
Kosher salt & pepper to taste
Hamburger buns (we like Hawaiian rolls)
For the sauce:
Half a head of shredded iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup of Hellman's mayonnaise
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish juice
1/4 cup sweet pickle relish (optional)
*Whitney used regular pickles bc she's not down with the sweet relish LOL
Directions
Heat Oven to 400 degrees
Press ground ground beef into a rimmed baking sheet lined with foil. You can use a fork or spoon to even out the meat. Drizzle all over with the Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle with fresh pepper. You can salt but the worcestershire is pretty salty. Evenly place diced butter over the beef. Bake for 10 minutes. Once cooked remove from oven and cut into equal squares depending on if you're using slide buns or full size. Move the square burgers from the sheet pan to a paper towel lined plate to soak up some of the melted butter. Add sauce and enjoy!
Sauce:
Mix ingredients together. Set aside in fridge for at least 20-30 minutes before serving. Toast buns and top burger with sauce. Enjoy!
